The DNA of Engagement and Motivation
Leveraging Individual and Team Motivation
to Enhance Team Dynamics
Every leader has tried the carrot-on-a-stick approach to motivation. And every leader has also watched it stop working. External rewards, bonuses, recognition programs, and perks can create short-term momentum, but they only go so far. The leaders who build truly high-performing teams understand a more powerful lever: intrinsic motivation. When people are driven by purpose, autonomy, and a genuine connection to the work they do, engagement is not something you have to manufacture; it grows on its own.
This employee engagement and leadership motivation workshop explores the three types of motivation, three research-backed frameworks for increasing intrinsic drive, and the specific communication strategies leaders can use to activate them across their entire team. Whether you are working with your highest performers or team members with significant room to grow, this session gives you the tools to customize your approach, ask stronger questions, lead with values, and build a culture of genuine, lasting engagement. Participants leave with a concrete action plan to implement key engagement strategies into their daily leadership communication starting immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does intrinsic motivation produce stronger long-term team performance than external rewards?
External rewards create short-term momentum, but intrinsic motivation, rooted in purpose, mastery, and autonomy, produces deeper engagement, stronger performance, and greater retention over time. This workshop gives leaders three concrete frameworks to start activating intrinsic motivation immediately, for every person on their team.
How does this motivation training help leaders work with both high performers and those with room to grow?
The workshop is built on the understanding that every person is motivated by something different, and that the leader's role is to discover what that is and customize their approach accordingly. This session equips leaders to meet each individual where they are and unlock what genuinely drives them, regardless of where they currently sit on the performance spectrum.
How does leading with values connect to employee engagement and team culture?
When leaders and individual contributors alike articulate their own values clearly, it creates space for all team members to connect their work to what matters most to them. As a result, engagement deepens in a way that no external reward can replicate. Values-based leadership is one of the most underutilized and powerful engagement tools available, and this workshop puts it into practice.
How does The DNA of Engagement and Motivation connect to other leadership development workshops?
This workshop pairs naturally with Coaching to Full Potential, Talent Catalyst, and The Art + Science of Psychological Safety as part of a comprehensive people leadership development journey. Together, these sessions build the full range of skills leaders need to inspire, develop, and retain a high-performing team.
